Guardians of Time
In 1991, when I was 21, I decided to start my own photography project documenting the beauty, strength and spiritual richness of indigenous communities in Latin America. For 12 years, I traveled to the most remote communities in 8 countries, living with indigenous people for long periods of time, always learning from them. Photography, for me, is a bridge and a mirror through which I can transform my experience into images. My book, Guardians of Time, with a prologue written by José Saramago, Nobel Prize winner in Literature, allows me share the privileged time I experienced with these guardians. My images are a message from the surviving voices of a world that is gradually receding. The name of each nation and their location appears on the lower left margin of each photo.
