After my book “Guardians of Time,” to further my visual research into the roots of the identity of the Americas, I started a new project documenting African communities. Over 10 years, I traveled through 18 different Latin American countries, where I photographed images that reflected the cultural heritage of the descendants of the men and women who were shipped as slaves from Africa. These involuntary migrants brought their cultural traditions and spiritual richness with them. My search will culminate in an editorial book project that will include photographs of carnivals, rituals, dances, daily life and portraits.
